PurSteam Steam Mop
A practical steam mop (2-in-1 mop + handheld) for quick, chemical-free floor cleaning at home.
Steam mops are quick and hygienic on the right floors, but a little technique makes a big difference. Here's how to use one properly.
Fill the tank with water (distilled if you're in a hard-water area), attach a clean microfibre pad, let it heat up, then glide it slowly over sealed hard floors so the steam loosens dirt. Sweep or vacuum first, work in sections, and swap the pad when it gets dirty.
Check the floor is sealed and steam-safe - steam suits sealed tile, stone and vinyl, but not unsealed floors, and wood and laminate are risky. Sweep or vacuum first to lift grit that would otherwise smear. Fill the tank with the water your manual recommends (distilled reduces limescale in hard-water areas).
1. Fit a clean microfibre pad. 2. Fill the tank and let the mop heat up until it's producing steam. 3. Glide it slowly and steadily over the floor - slow passes let the steam work. 4. Work in sections, back towards the door. 5. Swap to a fresh pad when the one on the mop looks dirty, so you're not spreading grime.
Empty any remaining water when you finish (don't leave it standing in the tank), and machine-wash the microfibre pads so they're ready next time. Sealed hard floors usually dry within a few minutes. Don't over-steam one spot, and never use it on floors the manufacturer says to avoid.

Yes - sweep or vacuum first. Steam mopping over loose grit just smears it around and can scratch the floor. Clearing debris first gives a much better finish.
Normal tap water works, but distilled or filtered water is better in hard-water areas as it reduces limescale build-up inside the mop. Check your manual.
For most homes, once a week on high-traffic sealed floors is plenty, with spot cleaning in between. Over-cleaning isn't necessary and uses more pads and water.
